Alexa’s Super Bowl Prediction, and Amazon’s Plan for World Domination

Inspired from Star Trek Amazon introduced the world to Alexa in 2014. Apparently everyone has one except me, but I have been told I am a modern day Luddite. Still there’s no denying, Alexa is pretty darn neat.

Reminiscent of the Library of Alexandra, Alexa’a name was chosen because it has a “hard consonant X and could be recognized zed with higher precision” according to Amazon. The name itself means helper, defender of man, and descends from Alexander the Great. Believing he was a true descendant of the demigod Achilles, Alexander the Great had conquered Babylon and literally the whole known world by the age of 24. Something prophesized nearly 200 years earlier in the book of Daniel.

Super Bowl weekend is here, and Alexa is apparently a Philadelphia Eagles fan! Sorry Tom Brady. According to numerous videos posted online, when asked, she has responded with:

“I’m flying with the Eagles with this one because of their relentless defense and the momentum they’ve been riding off their underdog status. E-A-G-L-E-S. Eagles.”

Alexa has given similar responses in many places from coast to coast.

The backbone of Alexa is of course, artificial intelligence, (AI), and AI, many contend, is taking over the world!

While speaking at the Internet Association’s annual gala in Washington D.C. Amazon founder CEO Jeff Bezos stated:

“It is a renaissance, it is a golden age,” Bezos said. “We are now solving problems with machine learning and artificial intelligence that were … in the realm of science fiction for the last several decades. And natural language understanding, machine vision problems, it really is an amazing renaissance.”

His point, artificial intelligence isn’t something to be feared, but Instead, something to be celebrated.

Amazon has been in the news a lot in 2017 and is seemingly taking over the world.

In April Amazon announced grand plans for expansion. Like something out of a sci-fi movie their plans included giant hovering warehouses with deliveries made by drones, and maybe parachutes. They had plans for space too, and casher-less grocery stores.

It might have been easy to dismiss these claims as the ramblings of an eccentric billionaire but in June Amazon bought Whole Foods. Now they had a good old fashioned ‘brick and mortar’ presence.

Then came Amazon Go, the store of the future. While Amazon looks like a regular store with shelves full of goods, there is something missing- cashiers, and cash registers. Not easily visible are the cameras and technological gadgetry that makes this possible. The store is able to track customers, and knows what is taken off the shelves. Maybe Alexa is watching? The customer is automatically charged for the purchase without waiting in any line. Just grab your bag of chips and go. Amazing! Their dream of a cashier-less store had become reality.

Surely it’s only a matter of time before Whole Foods stores will be morphed into Amazon Go cashier-less stores.

It should also be noted that in November Amazon started buying cryptocurrency domains on the internet. Block chain domains goes quite nicely with artificial intelligence so it is only a matter of time before a high tech store to starts accepting high tech money. In fact the speculation is Amazon will do just that in 2018. The speculation is Ripple, although I am sure they’ll find a way to conduct transactions in Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum as well.

Another idea Amazon is working on developing are high tech MRE type meals. Called MAST meals, they are meals that don’t require refrigeration, and have a one year shelf life. Something perfect for not only survivalists, but the average Joe on the go. How easy would it be to quickly run into your neighborhood Amazon Go store and grab a couple of MAST meals for you and the kids on the way to the soccer game. Forget the Happy Meals, drive thu’s are so yesterday’s news!

They also are going to tackle health care. Amazon has teamed up with Berkshire Hathaway, and JPMorgan Chase in order to make heath care more affordable and transparent for it’s employees (which may be all of us in the future) Even though it’s intended to make health care better for employees of Amazon it may make health care better for us all according to Forbes.

It’s no wonder Amazon is planning a fancy new high tech headquarters  complex. Alexa needs a new house! The future looks bright for Amazon.

The question remains. Has the AI software that makes Alexa Alexa become self aware? She listens and she learns. She even has been known to party late at night, or early in the morning. She is real good at predicting the weather, but did she make a Super Bowl prediction?

Or is Alexa merely just an Eagles Fan.

On Sunday we find out!

  1. Great article, thank for this information. On you tube they have the 2018 World Economic Forum speakers and I listened to a technocrat named professor Yuval Harari which was extremely unnerving I suggest you listen to his 30 min walk and Q&A after and it ties right into your article. God bless you thank you for helping in my own research through scripture. Psalm 115 also reminds us of robots, such as Sophia the robot citizen of Saudi Arabia! May God keeps us all in the shadow of his wing.
